Our house is located in the heart of Maestrazgoturolense, it’s a fortified country house with a battlemented towerof Templar origin, it’s considered “Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC)”; its main purpose, like the other fortified towers in the Maestrazgo, was defensive, due to the great vantage point it commands over the surroundings. These towers are the remains of a past closely connected to military orders, in this case the Knights Templar.
We are on the outskirts of Villarluengo (1,5km), on the top of a mountain. It is reached by following the paved track from which you get a bird’s-eye view of the village and a lovely view from the landscape that surrounds it. At 1250m altitude, we have an extraordinary natural landscape (among others, two monumental pines), where you can stay some days of rest in stark nature “where the silences speaks”.
Our greatest desire is to offer a place where the travelers who visit us can rest, where they can feel comfortable and relaxed in a simple and homely atmosphere completely surrounded by nature.
The bedrooms and the spacious dinning room have been renovated from the old straw loft and stables that existed in the villa before, preserving their essence and respecting their history, leaving their original beams and stones in sight. The fittings have been adapted for wheelchair users.
Very closed to the hostel can be found the ruins of the, like some people called, Castle-Convent of Montsanto. It was a castle-convent built surely by the Templars, but Carlist modified itin the XIX century. During the Carlist Wars it was used like a prison, it was involved in the combats and wasburnt, for this reason nowadays only the relics of the outer walls remain. In them, you can see it was large and rectangular, with stonework factory, it presents loopholes for guns in its walls, the remains of the base of a square tower in the highest point and the remains of a refrigerator.
